CASE STUDY 1
The Butt Bin - North Lanarkshire Council
For this project we were asked to design a small plastic container that would fit comfortably into someone’s pocket for the purpose of disposing of cigarette butts.
With new legislation coming into force to prosecute members of the public for dropping cigarette butts in the street, North Lanarkshire council were keen to supply a container which would encourage safe disposal.
A fully functional product was designed by Glossbrook. The flip-up lid with clip fit closing was designed in such a way that no moving parts were required in the mould tool.
This vastly reduced tooling costs for the customer. The customer was also given advice on a suitable flame retardant material for this application. The lid mould has an interchangeable logo insert enabling the client to provide information to the public.
The product and subsequent tooling were designed and manufactured in house by Glossbrook. The lid and base are moulded, assembled and packaged direct to the customer.
